It’s 7am and I am meant to be picking up Stuart and Kelly McKinnon from the 5 star River Birches Lodge in Turangi for a days guided fly fishing on the Tongariro but the rivers have come up in a flood over night with the Tongariro already above 120 cumecs and rising. This is my first postponing/cancellation due to weather for the year and hopefully there won’t be any more. Last year only 1 day got called off and the same the year before so it is not a normal occurrence. The weather is meant to deteriorate further this morning and I would imagine the Tongariro will probably go well over 200 cumecs this afternoon. On the bright side it should put more water in the lake and reduce the electricy shortage crisis.
