Having another engagement that I couldn’t miss I was unable to be there to assist in the guiding of the Group from Tandberg consisting of 7 learner fisherman. Fortunately my second in command Mike Burgin and the two other guides for the day Chris and Marcel did a great a job and managed to help the group into around 20 hookups with around half of these landed. Hopefully Mike has a photo of the day he can email me!!!!

R3B3. Another great day today this time For John Fiztgerald from Houston. John has plenty of fly fishing experience and had no trouble in hooking 15 nice North Island trout today of which around 12 were in the 3 to 5 pound range. John managed 2 sight fished browns on dry fly of which one is in the photo here, and the rest were nymphing – a couple of which were sight fished. By lunch time, the day had reached the level where it was Johns best days fishing ever and I think it was hard for him to leave the river!

Guided Sharon today who managed to avoid being stuck in China with the current bad weather and flew to New Zealand. It was Sharon’s first ever day doing any fishing of any sort at all and she did superbly. Sharon managed to hook 7 and did very well landing 5 of these. We finished the day with Sharon missing one take on the dry fly while sight fishing and then managed to land one on the nymph dropper under the dry. Sharon picked up fishing very well and we nearly had the whole section of the river to ourselves – we sas two persons in a raft go by and one other fisherman for half an hour around lunch time. A little different from the hustle and bustle of the 18 million person Beijing. Hopefully Sharon will send one of the photos through we took on her camera to make this blog look a little nicer!

Towed the boat across to New Plymouth and went game fishing with Steven Rowe Yesterday as a few Striped Marlin had been caught out off their in the weekend. We actually had one small fish take which Steve thought was a marlin. We landed several large Albacore tuna up to 20 pounds.

Went fishing in a secret little back-country stream of Steven Rowes not far from New Plymouth yesterday and was astounded by the number of good sized browns we saw in such a short stretch of water. We caught a few – mainly sight fished on dry fly – and had several other refusals. The fishing was definitely up there as some of the best brown trout fishing available. Steven who besides being and ex saltwater charter fisherman is a local trout fishing guide, is considering joining the Anglers Anonymous team to offer a branch in the west coast for sight fishing browns to experienced Anglers.
