Wet lining the Tongariro

Went out for a couple of hours this morning and wet lined down the hydro - hooked 1. Wet lined another spot later on hooking 2 and then hooked another nymphing. The water had a bit of colour in it but was well fishable. Am guessing that a few fish will show up around town [...]

No room on the Tongariro

Still zillions of people fishing the Tongariro and hard to find space today. This does seem to happen noawadays at this time of the year on busy weekends such as this. Nevertheless we continued Ross’s learning curve by going out for a couple of hours. Whilst working on his double hauling and mending technique Ross [...]

Training on the Tongariro

Continued my mates fly fishing trainging on the Tongariro today - Ross Wilson from Northpower. Experimented with a new method for getting him straight into double hauling and had pretty good success. Later on in the day fished for a couple of hours late afternoon wet-lining and landed 3 less fresh ones, lost 1, and had several other probable takes. At present [...]

Exploring TT at low tide

Went exploring the lower TT today with Chappie Chapman, sharing lyes and things - thats not tall stories about fishing but spots where trout rest on their spawning migration up the Tauranga-Taupo river.
We had a good day out - not huge numbers of trout (5 hookups), but that wasn’t the mission. If a guide spends [...]

Tongariro fishing with Marcel Ryder

Went out for a flick this afternoon on the Tongariro as usual. I managed to lose one early on the wet line, and Marcel dropped one later nymphing. In all we were just scouting so couldn’t really call it hard though I am glad I wasn’t guiding today! Saw Herb Spangahal on the river later [...]

Charlie Allen defines the reason my business is called Anglers Anonymous - like me he needs serious help with his addiction to fishing - that is help to find more fantastic fishing! This was Charlies 3rd guided trip down here over the past month, this time dragging his father Mike down with him. Charlie postponed [...]
