A great pattern for New Zealand central North Island rivers over summer when trout are rising.  This pattern is highly is great in slow flowing water and even riffle water to an extent when fishing close to a sighted fish, however when fishing longer runs or more turbulent water then patterns such as the Royal Wulff come into their own.

Materials

Hook:Black Magic E 10
Thread:    8/0 uni grey
Tail/Hackle:   Brown and Grizzly cock
Body:Muskrat
Wing:White Polywing

Method

  1. Bind in tail
  2. Finely dub Muskrat to wing position - see Applying Fine Dubbing
  3. Bind in Polywing and 1 each of Grizzly and Brown prepared hackles for parachute - see Creating A Parachute Post With Polypropylene Yarn
  4. Dub around Polywing and secure return thread position to just behind post
  5. Wind in and tie off hackles - see Creating A Parachute Hackle
  6. Dub a little more muskrat to head position
  7. Apply a little head cement to the thread and whip finish
